Title: Morgellons and Chronic Lyme disease: A Functional Medicine Approach

Abstract: Lyme disease is the great imitator and should be considered in the differential diagnosis of numerous difficult to diagnose cases including Morgellons Disease. Due to the complexity of this disease complex, a comprehensive individualized treatment path is required to obtain healthy maintenance. By taking a functional medicine approach with the treatment of Morgellons and Lyme disease, we address imbalances in an individualís biochemistry and physiology that may lead to a prolonged clinical course. This presentation will provide an evidence based approach for both antimicrobials and integrative medicine treatment modalities. We will review a case presentation of a patient diagnosed with Morgellons disease with positive western blots for Borrelia burgdorferi and Babesia Duncani. We will assess the association between the two diseases and the multi-systemic approach needed to evaluate and treat both disorders.
