Join ILADS

With more than 500 members, the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society (ILADS) is the leading international medical society devoted to the treatment of Lyme and associated tick-borne diseases. We focus on supporting providers in evidence-based medicine to achieve better outcomes for patients with tick-borne illnesses.

Membership in ILADS is limited to medical clinicians and scientific researchers only. Only those with professional medical degrees are eligible to join ILADS.

Membership in ILADS is calendar-based. New members will be required to pay full year annual dues, regardless of application date. Dues are not prorated.

Criteria for Membership

ILADS welcomes healthcare professionals interested in advancing the treatment of Lyme and associated diseases.

Member types are determined by each individual’s qualifications outlined within the ILADS Bylaws. Members may not select their membership type based on preference.

Membership categories include:

Full (Voting) Membership is open to:

  • Medical providers with a doctoral degree in a health-related field  (MD, DO, DDS, DVM, DMD)
  • Nurse Practitioners (NPs) licensed to practice in their field that have full independent prescription writing authority without oversight.
  • Those holding a PhD, ScD. or Psy.D in a medical field; and
  • Those with an AANMC-accredited Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine (ND) degree that have prescribing authority for antibiotics in the state in which they are licensed or have completed a CNME approved residency program.

Affiliate (Non-Voting) Membership is open to:

  • Allied healthcare professionals with an interest in the diagnosis, treatment, management and/or research of Lyme and associated diseases. This includes medical professionals who do not otherwise meet the qualifications for Full membership listed above.

ILADS Membership Requirements and Responsibilities

ILADS members are vetted and held to the highest of standards. To maintain an active member status, members are expected to:

  • Actively participate in ILADS (i.e. attend an ILADS event, webinar, educational program, utilize the IO Chat to network/collaborate with other members, etc.)
  • Attend at least one (1) in-person ILADS Scientific Conference every three (3) years.
  • Attend Fundamentals training (in-person or online) within the first year of membership.
  • Alert ILADS Staff of any changes in your licensure and/or contact information. (Please email updates to: membership@ilads.org).

Application Process

All members are vetted through a unique process which includes final approval by the ILADS Board of Directors. If an applicant is denied, the payment of membership dues will be refunded, less the application fee. Otherwise, ILADS has a strict "no refund" policy for annual membership dues.

  1. Complete the ILADS Online Application – Upload your CV/Resume and complete the required information.
  2. Pay the associated annual membership dues and $25 application fee (non-refundable). Dues are not pro-rated.
  3. Complete a Sponsor Interview (approximately 20-30 minutes).
  4. New applications and supportive materials are reviewed by the Membership Committee members and applicant recommendations are presented monthly to the ILADS Board of Directors for consideration. The approval process can take up to two months.

NOTE: The ILADS policy for Affiliate member applications is limited to a certain number of accepted applications each month. Due to the overwhelming number of applicants in this category, membership applicants may be put on a Waiting List until openings occur in this category.
